For the VACATION traveller, this location offers a perfect base from which to explore all that our Nation's Capital has to offer. Convenient to bus links and just a short walk from the Metro. There is so much to see in this historic city, from the hopping nightlife and trendy ethnic dining establishments of Adams Morgan, to the Georgian quaintness of up-scale Georgetown with its charming boutiques and waterfront restaurants. World famous Arlington Cemetery is a short Metro ride into VA.

Nestled a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol grounds is the charming, 19th century neighborhood of Capitol Hill in which this lovely house is situated. Close by, you can visit the neighborhood's unique museums, the historic Eastern Market, and the restored Union Station. In addition, the diversity of the area's historic homes offers visitors a sumptuous architectural feast. You'll also find that Capitol Hill is not lacking in its own unique shopping and dining opportunities. On Sundays, don't miss the Flea Market at Eastern Market.

The setting of this Capitol Hill Historic District, once called Jenkins Hill, was selected by the planner of the new federal city, Pierre L'Enfant, as the perfect location for the city's Capitol building. Congressmen and senators once took up temporary residence in the area's many boardinghouses. Thomas Jefferson walked from his boardinghouse on New Jersey Avenue to take his oath of office as president of the United States. Today, East Capitol Street runs through the center of this neighborhood of much-sought-after modest row houses and handsome homes. Pennsylvania Avenue radiates in another direction creating an eclectic, commercial center in the neighborhood.

If you missed the annual Capitol Hill House and Garden Tour, you can take a self-guided stroll along the neighborhood's brick sidewalks, and discover diverse architectural styles designed by notable local architects. Why not start your architectural tour on East Capitol Street and head toward Lincoln Park. It is only 0.7 mi. down this stretch. Detours down some of the charming side streets will reward your architectural cravings. Look for wonderful architectural examples of Federal, Queen Anne, Richardsonian Romanesque, Italianate, and Beaux-Arts.

Ask us for up-to-date information on exhibitions, lectures and other heritage happenings in the city.

Looking for a restaurant? Be sure to check out Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington members on Capitol Hill.

If you are booking a romantic or celebratory trip, we can arrange anything from fruit basket and flowers to fine chocolates & champagne to surprise your special guest on arrival. Rates available on request.
